For years I have thought about starting a blog.. But I guess now I'm just getting around to doing it. Not sure where to start, but I guess I gotta start somewhere...
So I'll start with where I am in my current life. I am 16 and stuck in this whirlwind called life, caught up in a family of ten-- 3 brothers, 2 sisters, mom, dad, and 2 beloved cock-a-poos. It's the summer before sophomore year (high school) and I'm not exactly sure where life might take me. Getting ready for college and all that great stuff they call education is testing my sanity, but thanks to guidance and support from all the people I love, I have a feeling I'll pass all of this with flying colours. (:
My home is here in this grand ol' state of Virginia. I live in a modest two-story colonial, and I've been here all my life. I had stereotyped blogs as being a venue for the rants and life stories of people with no lives. I laugh now, because that is not true, as I have found with age. But then I figure, what's the point of having a blog if you can't rant and share stories? I guess it just sounded blunt and bad before, but looks like that is what I'm here to do. In my blog future, I hope to have added fun stories and memories (and rants, while I"m at it!) that can be as open or as private as I'd like. So I guess this is my blog's official birthday! Yay... Should I have gotten a cake or something...? But that's funny, because the twins' birthday was yesterday (July 14). Because I don't know exactly how the sibs would handle their fame on this blog, I've given them alternate names that mirror who they are as people in my eyes (:
And now, I believe an introduction to the fam is in order! This is just so you know who I'm talking about when I refer to people in posts.
Ruski- (17 years old) The only sibling older than me, he's got all the older brother traits, though sometimes I think he's an alien. He's got red roots and is obsessed with the Russian culture. A detailed artist and a devout Redskins fan, he spends most of his time eating and being a hermit in the basement.
Me- (16 years old) Well, we've already met, but I guess I could list some of my interests/hobbies etc. I love to sing, read, draw and hang with friends. My mom calls me a social butterfly, and I guess I see why. (:
I also enjoy swimming (for fun-) and playing basketball (I played on a team once). My current boyfriend of almost a year has turned me on to hockey, which I find quite exciting to watch-- (LET'S GO CAPS!) I love music in general, with my current favourite artists being Maroon 5 and John Mayer. OH and I like to spell things the British way... :P
Joy- (14 now!) Twins with Albert, she is what her name implies. Sure, she can be a bit annoying and hard to work with sometimes, but she's sweet and I want the best for her. She's easy to please and has a giant heart. She loves food and I'm jealous, because she can eat whatever and however much she wants and won't gain a single pound. Traveling is one of her favourite things to do, and loves seeing new places. And right now, as I type, she's doing another thing she loves... which happens to be blasting Lady Gaga from inside her room... Good thing I like Lady Gaga, too.
Albert- (14 now!) Twins with Joy, he's a bundle of brains, sometimes I call him a mini Einstein. He excels in mathematics and wants to be a nuclear physisist/bio techy thing when he grows up. He's like me in so many ways-- we both share a love for reading and our report cards are very similar in the fact that they're all great grades... however, he's more of a STEM guy and I'm into everything but. If only my math grades were as good as his.. he's 2 years ahead math-class wise than I was when I was entering 8th grade. When he's not being smart, he goofs off, does puzzles, and plays baritone.
Pickles/Bubby- (11) The name.. you must be thinking I'm nuts. But Boo nicknamed him "Bubby" and I wanted to call him Pickles. They'll be interchangeable, just so you know. ANYWAYS. Why "Pickles" you may ask? He loves pickles, for one, not to mention the name suits the personality. He's a touch ball of fire with a strong dill taste, but he can be sweet as relish when he wants. He's a huge fan of baseball and a great player himself-- All of the coaches want to draft that left-handed pitching machine. He too, plays baritone! (Following in Albert's footsteps, no doubt) (:
Boo- (5) The baby of the family-- she's super excited to go to kindergarten in the fall. She's a bit of a tomboy and won't run from a tussle with her brothers, yet she loves the idea of a cute pink dress and nail polish. Her favourite colour is blue, but with a bit of a speech impediment, it comes out "bwue". XD She's a blonde and "bwue"-eyed joy, full of energy. (Too much energy, at times...) But she's adorable in her fashionable pink cowgirl boots and tiara. She's quite the little blessing.
Mom- (age is just a number, but I always put 39 because she says that was a good year in her life) She is... how do I describe her? She's smart, kind, a hard worker, and beautiful inside and out. She's caring, courageous and bold. She's cheated death a multitude of times; she's one of the strongest women I know. I admire the fact that she can raise all of us kids on one income, being frugal in all the right places so she can spend her money on "worthwhile things" such as various things for us kids and family vacations. But she gives us what we need most: love and affection. And that's all that matters anyways. She knows what's important and will do anything for us kids. I know we give her so much trouble, but she tolerates and loves us all no matter what.
Dad- (I'm actually not sure how old dad is.. XD) He's the "geek" (if you will) of our family. He's the computer guy-- he programs computers for a living. He's our income, because mom's a stay-at-home mother. He's big and strong-- he could be a bodyguard. (He's told me on many occasions that any boy I decide to bring home better watch out.) He's just like mom, kind and caring. I see him as not afraid of anything-- which is a bit juvenile, I know everyone's got fears. But he's always there for all of us, like a boulder in a storm, reliable and unmoving. He actively participates in Albert and Bubby's boy scout endeavors, drives us everywhere, cooks rice like a pro, and tends to any cuts and bruises with his "doctor bag". (Boo loves the "Blues Clues" band-aids). I guess like all dads do to some degree, he's got the tougher love attribute. However, when he's proud of us or even for no reason, he won't hesitate to let us know (,:
Tasha- (older than the hills) She's our crochety old-lady cock-a-poo. She's white, mouthy, and barks at everything under the sun. She's definitely more cocker spaniel than poodle, as she's proved with her dainty yet moody ways.
Travis- (approx. 5 years old? I think? He acts still very much like a puppy) He's the cute bouncy playful one of black fur. His paws are too big for his body and when his hair grows out, it's curly and it shows his dominant poodle gene.
Well that's it! Try to imagine all this under one roof. It's noisy and chaotic at times, but it's more fun and you're almost never lonely. (Also imagine how fun our Christmases are! :D) And sure, there's extended family, but I'll get to them when they come up in later posts (: Some people call us a clan, some people call us kids a handful, but those are just crude words for what we really are-- a big ol' loving family <3
It's summertime for all of us as of now, and we're all enjoying the break so far. To think, next year, Boo will be joining us in the world of public school...Time moves quickly. My freshman year at high school was a lot more rigorous at times than I thought it would be, so this summer has been like a giant sigh of relief/relaxation so far. However there are some summer assignments I should tend to... I know I have to read "The Lemon Tree" in preparation for my AP World History course this fall, and there's an extra credit German project that was optional, but I really want to do it. Thing is, fact number like, "X" about me is that I procrastinate. ...A lot. It's a bad habit, one I've tried to break this past year and I think I've gotten a bit better about things, but there's no doubt that breaking this habit will appear again on my New Year's resolutions list.
Summer thus far has been (pretty much) chilling at home, seeing friends, hanging with the boyfriend, swimming, biking, shopping, working, (on summer projects..ish... although I really should be trying to get in some volunteer hours in there somewhere) playing piano, reading, arranging music (for the acapella group I belong to at school), running (I don't do cross country, I just want to stay somewhat in shape), visiting family, going to grad parties of seniors who I'll miss dearly, Fourth of July stuff, and cleaning up the pig sty called my room.
I bet you're curious, I've mentioned "the boyfriend" a couple times-- J and I have been together 8 months now, (officially on the 21st this month) and wow, this coming October 21st makes it 1 year. O.o Time DOES fly. That's crazy! But anyways. He's a great guy--awesome all around. He's great with technology and he, like my brother, is a major STEM man. Moral of the story, he's a genius and he's just as nice as he is smart. We make an interesting pair, we're so weird together sometimes XD But we laugh together, and have a great time, and that's all that matters, right? OH and he's a devout Washington Capitols fan-- I've been to a couple hockey games with him (great times!) and he's just this animated fan I've never seen before (: I believe his favourite player is Backstrom... He is indeed, another blessing in my life. <3
That looks to be like my life in a nutshell... And I guess that's a purty great place to start. (;
xoxo
