One Down, One To Go.

Well.  Looks like this first week here by the sand, water and sun is basically over.  It's been an interesting/relaxing/fun week.

Even though every day is somewhat similar and the recollections of this week are melding into each other, it's still been a fun time.  Let me recall a couple highlights of this week...(not necessarily in order...)

- I became a five minute model
- I had a peek into my mom's past clubbing life
- I have somehow succeeded to make myself nocturnal
- I have done little to no work this week

Let's start with how I became a five minute model... XD  This happened on two occasions, actually.  I was down on the beach with the fam a couple days ago... and they have this thing where hired people come down the beach wearing bathing suits with the word "SCOPES" on them... Basically, what they do is take your picture and then have them morph it into a little kaleidoscope thingy that looks like this:

You hold them up to the light and look through the lens hole thing, and your picture is magically on the other end! It's like those View Master thingies... (people older than 40 may only know what those are-- if you're curious, click here to check 'em out! Old technology FTW!)...And you can buy these little memory makers for I don't how much.
So this lady comes jogging down the beach and up to us.  She's all bright and cheery, like any good saleswoman should be.  I kinda started thinking that I'd love to do this job-- I mean, you wander the beach all day in a bikini and SCOPE shorts, and take pictures for people! I love taking pictures.  I love the beach.  I love making money.  Sound perfect, eh?  And there's a ton of exercise involved, too.  But anyways.
She comes up to us and says, "Hey guys! Would you like to buy some SCOPES? If you'd like, I can take a couple pictures and then have them ready for you later in their magical SCOPE form!" Okay, so it wasn't exactly like that... but you get the gist.  She was trying to sell us SCOPES.  My mom was like "Eh.. maybe later-- we don't really have our good bathing suits/clothes on... perhaps next week?"  The lady looked a tad disappointed, and countered my mom's comment with one of her own. "Well, that's okay.  But I have this quota thing where I have to take a certain amount of pictures, whether you buy them or not.  Do you mind if I snap a couple of shots anyways?"  Seeing the "no-obligation" thing, my mom was like "Sure! Only... the boys are off playing in the sand somewhere... and Boo has a hard time taking pictures since she squirms so much and doesn't cooperate... But hey! Feel free to use my teenage daughter here!  She's easy to work with and photogenic, too!"  Gee, Mom. I blush.  Thanks.
So off I go; I leave my nice, cool shady spot under my diva umbrella to go get in front of a camera.  She has me pose in somewhat ridiculous ways, and I felt like I was in a photo shoot.  My mom said my hair was blowing from the wind in all the right ways, and the bathing suit I had on was a fun one...
...And all of this happened on another day, except a guy came by.  And the whole thing repeated itself.
That, my friends, is how I was a model for about five minutes.

As for the peek into my mother's clubbing life...
Last night, we went to a restaurant called Harpoon Hanna's.  It was on the bay, the food was fantasmical, and to top it all off, there was a fun tiki bar thing where they blasted fun music.  Apparently, this place has been there since my mom was in her twenties... and so she reminisced about the summer she stayed in O.C. to work as a cocktail waitress.  She said after her shifts she'd sometimes round up a couple of her girlfriends and head over to Harpoon Hanna's to break it down on the dance floor.  XD Now me, when I heard this, I had a hard time trying to picture my mom grinding (or whatever they did back then) on the dance floor.  But we peeked over into the dancing part after we had finished our dinner, and Boo covered her ears because the music was so loud. XD  I remember telling my mom, "I can't WAIT to go clubbing!" (:

No, I am not a bat.  Nor am I a raccoon.  But I am becoming somewhat nocturnal these days.  Because I (we, actually) have had a tendency to sleep in late, we don't get to the beach until later, and thus we eat later, and everything is pushed back and back into the evening...  I haven't been to bed earlier than 3am for the most of this week.  It's bad... And I think I can attribute part of it to catching up (my somewhat guilty pleasure) on all of the episodes of How I Met Your Mother and America's Got Talent... XD  That, and sort of working... and eating dessert... Haha.

...Working? Me? Eh.... I try to read my book at the beach.. but today? Today was awesome.  Apparently there was a storm somewhere on the coast that managed to rock the Atlantic Ocean purty hard.  The waves were so frequent, one would barely get to the shore without another one right on its tail.  They were big, too! And we got to the beach JUST in time for high tide, so the waves were over the top and went purty far into shore.  We had to move our beach chair/beach umbrella/beach towel/diva umbrella settlement AT LEAST 4 times.  But the result of the waves coming up so far?  Awesome little tide pool thingies (sadly, no tide pool wild life like a couple years ago, when we found hermit crabs, sea urchins and star fish...) that all the little kids flocked to.  They splashed all over the place and it was so cute-- Mom likened it to a parent's paradise because you're not having to worry that your child will get swept off to sea if they're right in front of you jumping and playing in a standstill puddle of water.  I, who had intentions of staying on my towel under my diva umbrella, was drawn to the little pools of water after seeing Boo having so much fun.  So I abandoned my settlement and perched Boo on one of our boogie boards and pulled her across the surface of the puddle water.  She loved it, and because the water was at least a foot deep, pulling her along was quite easy.  The not-so-easy part, however, was running through a foot of water... I couldn't go full speed but Boo seemed to like it all the same.  She was squealing and laughing and having a good time.  So you can see why I basically said "SCREW YOU" to "The Lemon Tree".

As just a little bonus of this post-- I know you've seen the phrase "diva umbrella" here a couple times... so let me explain.  My brother found this wicked awesome umbrella on the beach and it was zebra striped with sunset-y colours all fading together.  I don't know if you can see it that well, but here's me, as Rihanna SHOULD say, "under mah DIVA UMBRELLA-uh-uh-uh-uh" XD

So diva...  >:D

Anyways.  So as this week comes to a close, I'd like to say HAPPY SUMMER! Is anyone doing anything special this coming week?  Or maybe you have been doing something special this past week!  Feel free to comment and tell me how it was!
As for the slipping-away-summer... Hold on to what's left of it-- I know I will (:
xoxo
