Snowed In (Part 2) With the Puppies!

Ever have those do-nothing days?

That's basically what today was for me. I completely blew off my homework schedule (WOO!  I'm so BA... but ha...it's not much), and I slept in until about noon.   Finally I trudged downstairs to get breakfast and find out that the USA Olympic Hockey Team beat Russia.... But it was close!  Close game... Long game... Exciting game....

Annnnnnnnd between catching up with the Internet and eating sporadically throughout the day, I built a snowman with Ruski.  That was basically the huge accomplishment of the day.  Well, I didn't build it.  Technically, he built it yesterday, but it wasn't quite proportional and we wanted to make him look perfect.  This required us to make the midsection and head bigger.  However... once we made the midsection bigger, we couldn't lift it.  So after trying a bunch of ideas (fails included: using a car jack, using a boogie board as a ramp, launching it with a heavy duty snow shovel, using the car jack AND boogie board combined) we finally had the eureka moment--- to use a saw.  Yes, we cut poor Frosty's middle part in half and lifted each half one by one onto his lower body.  We stitched him up by cramming snow in between the visible crack, and then proceeded to increase the size of the head.  We then added facial features (rocks for eyes/mouth and a stick for a nose), added limbs, and of course, we made him look suave by adding a sombrero. (;

Did I mention we're holding down the fort while the rest of the fam's away at Williamsburg?

It's kind of a long story... but...

This past weekend we went down to see my mom's parents. There we'd help my grandmother celebrate her *ahemahem-eth* birthday and my grandparent's anniversary.  We'd also finally get to celebrate Boo's 6th birthday, seeing as the date we had set to go visit family before had got cancelled due to weather and whatnot.  They had been watching the dogs for us for quite a while, and we were also coming to take them back with us and off of their hands.  When we got down there Sunday, Tasha was deathly thin.  Her ribs were totally visible and her hips were dangerously jutted out.  My grandparents (my pop-pop in particular) kept saying not to expect her to live much longer... they said they've "seen it before... they stop eating but drink a huge amount..."  That's what Tasha was doing.  She refused her dry food and completely sucked down any water put in front of her.  I remember filling up her water bowl and, upon placing it on the floor for them to drink from it, Tasha attacked it and it was gone within minutes.  This, combined with the fact that she's really old (16 years I think?) resulted in quite a lot of accidents around the house... Travis would see the puddles and jump on the bandwagon, thinking, "oh, I can pee here too! Wheeeeeee!"  Sigh...

Hence why Ruski and I are here, and not in Williamsburg.   We need to stay home and watch them so they don't like, pee everywhere.  Also, we need to feed Tasha her special food.  Plus, I've been to Williamsburg so many times in my life.. it starts to get boring after a while. (That's the main reason Ruski decided to stay home)  :P

Anyways.

The very next day, my mom took Tasha to the vet.  They took x-rays and blood tests and all that good stuff to see what was wrong.  They found something in her intestines, but they weren't sure what it was.  The blood test results revealed some liver/kidney problems/disease.  The vet recommended a special food for her to eat-- a brand called "kd" for renal health.  It's soft (and smells like tuna mixed with hamburger meat) and we've been feeding her two small cans a day.  She gobbles it down (thank heavens!) and she's getting more meat on her bones.  She does not look so skinny anymore, so that's a plus.  While the kidney/liver disease is most likely inevitable, we want to see how long we can fend it off, if you will.  She's not in any pain as of now, so it's not like we're forcing her to live in misery.  She seems perfectly happy, and has even played with Travis a couple times in the snow.

Speaking of snow... (:D)

Quite a bit of it has melted (sadface) but we still have about 6-10 inches in some areas.
It'd be totally fine by me if the snow just kept coming and kept coming and school just continued to be cancelled...But I know that's just my opinion.  There would probably be a lot of frustrated parents if that happened....

But whatever.  A girl can hope, right?

Just a little bit of my personal Valentine's Day happiness.....(J surprised me yesterday with a table for two in the basement! The banquet included delicious banana pancakes, maple syrup, french vanilla and chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, and gummy bears (: )  He is amazing (:
