Oldies, But Goodies

Well, today brings a really relaxing weekend to a close.

Today was spent mostly indoors—I spent my time organizing all of my music on my computer, practicing piano, eating somewhere in there, reading, and talking with friends.  But I think it was mostly a musical day.  I got a boatload of new songs… new OLD songs that is (:  Oldies, but goodies.  I added a bunch of Beatles stuff to my collection (it’s been so long since I’ve heard “Eight Days A Week”!) and when I obtained John Lennon’s “Imagine”, I couldn’t help but go run off and learn it on piano.  Songs like “Imagine” and “Give Peace a Chance” really set my mind on a path towards the past.  I tried to picture the way life was back then… (when the music was good and people didn’t have auto-tune, that’s for sure)  Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of things I love about today’s music.  There’s definitely a HUGE variety, and the technology has granted artists the ability to add lots of interesting and cool effects to their music.  But sometimes the “club music” gets a bit old.   You don’t always need a heavy bass and synthesized electro-sounding notes—sometimes you’re fine with just a regular set of drums, a couple guitars and/or a piano (and in the case of many Beatles songs, a tambourine) (:  Moral of the story, older music is just as good if not better than the music we have today, and it’s definitely a window to the past.

It’s Day 2 Without The Boys! All the normal chores… less dishes to do, I guess… and less laundry.  Tomorrow, however, we’ll go back to a somewhat busy week-day schedule.
Ruski: Camp at 9am
Joy: Summer school
Mom, Boo and I have just been chilling at home for the past few weeks with the occasional errand or place to be.   And tomorrow’s Monday—J’s mom’s birthday.  I want to be the good girlfriend and make her a card and get her a little something, but they’re getting back really late tomorrow…  I mean, I could still do something… And for the record, I knew it was her birthday tomorrow because of J—and I promptly put the date on my calendar. Not Facebook.  (;  Psh,  Facebook’s just cheating…

OH and I think I’ll be getting my haircut this week… so that’s fun.  I don’t bother going to Hair Cuttery or whatever anymore, because my mom can do just as good a job, and for FREE.  So ha.  Take that, economy!  Plus, which is more important?  I think I’d rather have money to eat/go to college than for my hair to be cut.   It’s all about choices… I could spend my money on designer shoes and clothes, but does it really matter?  As long as I’ve got the basics: food, clothes and shelter, I’m set.  I mean, sure.  I love to go shopping for cute stuff every once in a while, but it’s not a necessity.  It’s a luxury.   Ha, now I’m just ranting about my monetary choices.

Hm… I guess I’ll leave y’all with a few songs that I really recommend you listen to that I enjoyed falling in love with all over again when I was dealing with my playlists today!  (This is just a mish-mash of  everything; it’s just a list of random songs I was like “oh yeah! I remember getting this!”/”Man, that’s a great song!”)  Enjoy!

“At Last” Etta James
“Imagine” John Lennon
“Eight Days A Week” The Beatles
“I Write Sins Not Tragedies” Panic! In The Disco
